Terriers and Lambs

This is my bottle lamb,
Just in case you were wondering how I got this bottle lamb, her mother was silly and thought that it was a dog or something, staring at it and shying away from it as if it would bite her, so I took the lamb.

After Janie got comfortable sitting with the lamb,
she got protective and would snap at the other Rat Terriers and the cats when they came near it. We couldn't tell if she was mothering it or saving it for her own dinner.
Martin would like some warm milk too!
This is my second bottle lamb, her mother had bad milk and is headed for the auction. The lamb couldn't stand up so we were going to milk some of the colostrum out of the mom for the lamb to get her started and that is when we noticed the bad milk. Some of our ewes are getting very old.

I love the picture of Janie with the lamb. Do you have to get up through the night to bottle feed the lamb?

I love the line, " we couldn't tell if she was mothering it or saving it for her dinner ." Gives one pause.....I think Janie's excellent mothering instincts wonderful ! Cute post Anna! And thank-you for helping me save one of my little lambies.

Mildred,
Yes, we do have to get up during the night. We have to check for new lambs and feed the bottle lambs. We only have four or five more sheep to have lambs. After about a week we feed the lambs late at night, just before we go to bed and early in the morning, Dad goes to work really early and if they are screaming their heads off he comes in a lets us know.

Well I hope by now you have figured out that Janie was just protecting her new friend. That's precious! Love that picture.

Thanks Anna for the information. I have two cats, but the older one always wakes me up early in the morning if her food bowl gets empty overnight. If I try to ignore her meows, she then WALKS on my head!!! Hard to ignore that!

Anna Colleen, I think the lamb thinks it is a dog too since it is sharing the dog's bed! :D

Such a cute photo of the two of them together. Fun post!
